One thing you should know about visiting Dominica. Although the island is rather small, it takes quite a long time to cover even short distances because of the geological composition.
Therefore it is important to find a hotel in a central location if you don’t want to spend your whole vacation in a car.. Also Dominica is not a typical caribbean island. If you are looking for white and sandy beaches you are in a wrong place! 80% of Dominica is made up of steep coastlines. But Dominica will fascinate you by it’s fantastic nature and variety. We liked it best of all and we think that all these travelguides calling Mauritius, Seychelles or Thaiti “paradise on earth” haven’t got a clue what Dominica is like. By the way, Dominica belongs to the 10 most beautiful islands of the world, according to the magazine “Travel & Adventure”. It is a german magazine originally called “Abenteuer & Reisen”
Dominica really attaches importance to conservation. That means that the hotels are rather small and harmonize with their surroundings. Big hotel-monsters like Sandals with whirlpool and sauna (both very usefull in the carribean!), tenniscourts and golf, or “all-inclusive” are not available here, thank God. You will find charming hotels offering very good standard instead. We have been to all hotels and found them OK ( except two of them -names on request). The Lauro-Club-Hotel surpasses all the others by far, because of it’s breathtaking and central location, which makes it to the optimal starting point to discover Dominica.
